Is it a program? A workshop? An event? A class?
The answer? Yes. Bizarro Torah is all those things. It’s taken the shape of a two-hour workshop, a one-hour facilitated discussion, a learner-directed class, a virtual presentation, and impromptu roleplaying games.
Bizarro Torah is not a specific product or service—and that’s by design. It’s a practice.
Openly experimental. Radically inclusive. Playfully irreverent.
Bizarro Torah is not the typical offering from a day school or adult education class. If you demand sober and somber Jewish study, Bizarro Torah may not be for you. If you scoff at pop culture as a doorway into Jewish peoplehood and culture, Bizarro Torah may not be for you.
But—
- If you can imagine a secret lineage of queer women teaching Torah
- If a Jewish parody of Galaxy Quest is your jam
- If the Binding of Isaac reminds you of The Shining…
Then Bizarro Torah is exactly where you belong.
